Why RISEBA, why Architecture?

Already for 18 years Riga International School of Economics and Business Administration offers its students contemporary and high quality education. RISEBA is the place where “BUSINESS MEETS ART”. As from this year RISEBA offers a unique, international architecture study programme in English.

The best educational standards of architecture of USA and Europe are integrated in the new architectural study programme of RISEBA. The study programme is developed in cooperation with Bahcesehir University of the Istanbul, which has wide training experience of architects in Europe, Asia and America. By establishing a new course of architecture studies RISEBA is taking the next step in order to accomplish its mission: to become “the gateway to international careers!”

Degree awarded: Bachelor's Degree in Architecture

Language of instruction: English

The Students of the architectural programme will obtain:
- the possibility to thoroughly master the English language already during the first month of studies in the intensive course of English language;
- studying abroad for one semester;
- attendance of at least one summer school beyond the borders of Latvia;
- assured places of practice;
- international teaching staff having international experience;
- professional materially-technical base - a library, computer classrooms, specialized computer programs;
- equipped design studios and modeling workshops;
- the possibility to study foreign languages — Latvian, French, Turkish, Spanish, Russian;
- the possibility to get the guarantee of  the institute for obtaining  a study loan receiving.

Form of study and tuition fees:

Full time studies
3,5 years 4200 LVL per year 6000 EUR per year
Full time studies with the discount*
3,5 years 3360 LVL per year 4800 EUR per year

*20% discount applies to citizens and permanent residents of The Republic of Latvia. Discount will be applied for all study period - 3,5 years.

Entrance requirements:
• centralized exams in English and Mathematics*;
• entrance examination in drawing/spatial modeling;
• interview and work portfolio (documentation of the previously performed works reflecting person’s individuality, creativity and capacity for work, in any field and techniques (photo, cinema, music, dance, computer graphics, multimedia, design, installations etc.).

* For those who have obtained secondary education until 2004, certificates of the centralized exams are not necessary. If a person has not passed the centralized exams, RISEBA additionally organizes entrance examinations in English and Mathematics.

*Architecture students are invited and encouraged to compose their curriculum by choosing additional courses also from other Creative and Business faculties.

Programme content:
The curriculum aims to integrate the knowledge of all these diverse, yet complementing domains. The main aspiration is to provide students with the ability of analytical thinking and problem solving: granting the knowledge, intellectual capacity and practical skills of interrelating apparently separate domains of architectural realm of theory and practice.
The successive years of the curriculum built up on one another in Architectural Design studies. Each academic year, the curriculum aims to explore consequently more complex issues and scales of design problems as such:

- Principles of design
- Private space and dwelling
- Public space and place-making
- Urban space and urban regeneration

The theme of the Bachelor degree Design studio - Year 2011/2012:

LEARNING BY OBSERVING, FINDING BY MAKING.

As from this year Riga International School of Economics and Business Administration (RISEBA) offers a unique, international architecture study programme in English.
The first year architecture students in Bachelors programme will be learning to see anew the world and the environment around them, they will learn to translate their experience into the drawings, paintings, models and other means of artistic expression. They will learn to analyze and synthesize their experience and findings into designs and design strategies. Through the study process students will raise the awareness for the necessity for renewable energy resources and ecology of the built environment.
They will be exploring and analyzing diverse sites in the city. Students learn by doing, they will draw and build small and big scale models, including 1:1.
