RISEBA invites you to the public lecture „Introduction to Discrete mathematics and mathematical methods in economics” delivered by Dr. Astrida Cirulis - professor of Mathematics at the Concordia University Chicago (USA). Lecture will take place on December 8th, at 12 a.m., at RISEBA (3 Meza Street, Riga), room 25.

How can you most effectively plan an advertising campaign?
How do you know where to allocate more resources so that a project is completed faster?
How are errors in UPC codes, ISBN numbers and VISA cards detected?
If your forestry company cuts 12% of its trees yearly and replants 600 new trees, will you run out of trees?
How can you use the least number of railroad cars loaded with chemicals that by law must be separated according to their potential for interaction? All these topics can be solved by mathematical methods!

During this lecture professor will talk about how mathematics relate to business, discuss the basics of some fundamental issues in business and their solutions.

Dr. Astrida Cirulis is a professor of mathematics at Concordia University Chicago. She is in Riga for the fall semester as a Fulbright Scholar, an exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. Back home, Dr. Cirulis teaches courses for students in the sciences, education and business. She is an author of a mathematics textbook series and speaks at mathematics education conferences at the national and state levels.
