PROGRAMME SUMMARY
This is our unique two year postgraduate programme build on the basis of RISEBA long-standing cooperation with the school international partners.
The programme focus areas are:
- a cross-national perspective:
- academic staff from Europe, America, CIS countries (50/ 50 local & international lecturers)
- students from west & east
- development of intellectual entrepreneurship and leadership
- creativity and innovation.
This programme is designed for those holding a degree or equivalent qualification in subjects other than Business Studies. It typically appeals to engineers, scientists, IT and arts graduates who are now pursuing or proposing to pursue a career in business. However we have many business and economics graduates in our programme as well and they also find this programme rewarding and challenging.
The programme has been developed to meet the needs of management professionals who are willing to take their career to the next level. Well-suited for entrepreneurs, experienced managers and aspiring business owners, RISEBA MBA programme will develop the necessary managerial skills associated with operating a company with greater flexibility, innovation, and responsiveness, and developing a clear understanding of the risks and rewards that accompanies entrepreneurial activities in today’s complex and dynamic business environment.
Upon successful completion of the programme students receive a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from RISEBA.
Programme format:
- full-time
- 2 years (a 4-semester programme, 3 semesters of study & 1 semester of supervised research);
- 80 Latvian Credit Points (KP) / 120 ECTS.
UNIQUE FEATURES OF THE PROGRAMME
1. Corporate Wednesdays
On Corporate Wednesdays run on a monthly basis students supported by their RISEBA tutors have lectures and networking sessions with the representatives of the local business community. Each Corporate Wednesday session is designed to provide rich information relevant to the students’ knowledge and skills in a particular area, such as leadership, marketing, finance etc. The session consists of a lecture following by an hour of networking. The sessions are of immense practical value to the students giving an opportunity spot new business opportunities as well as make business connections and foster new professional contacts.
2. Study Trip to Partner University (UK)
This is a unique element of the programme that has proved popular with our students and highly effective in linking theory to implementation – not only does the trip enhance students’ learning, but it also helps them acquire hands-on experience. It will be an intensive one week – ten day programme that includes the Operations Management module as well as students’ visits to best-practice companies.
INSTRUCTION
The learning strategy reflects this by placing an emphasis on students contributing, sharing and managing their own learning. Case study and other material will be used to develop understanding of the application of theory to practical problems, with much use of team working. A research-based approach to dealing with management problems runs through the programme. Assessment will include examinations, assignments, presentations etc. The overall programme stresses the integration of management disciplines and processes into a holistic view of organisational management.
ADMISSION PROCESS
Candidates who wish to be considered for admission should normally possess a first degree. An equivalent overseas degree is also acceptable. Eligible applicants must have at least three years relevant work experience after graduation.
English Language: Candidates should provide evidence of proficiency in English - IELTS 6.5 band score or a TOEFL score of 575 or above (232 computer-based). Please note that ‘institutional TOEFL tests’ are not accepted. For more information on these examinations in Riga please visit the respective sites.

Interview:
Once applications have been reviewed, selected candidates are invited to an interview with the programme management team and faculty members to complete the assessment.
Each candidate will be informed in writing if he/she has been selected for the programme within two weeks of the interview.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE & DETAILS*
Semester 1 of the MBA programme offers you a comprehensive foundation in the key management areas. Semester 2 provides a range for more advanced and specialised study courses and further opportunities to apply your knowledge and skills in a consultancy project. A number of specialised study courses as well as a study trip to a partner university offered in semester 3 ensure you further enhance your knowledge and apply it in an integrated way in an individual research project in semester 4.
Throughout the whole programme Corporate Wednesdays will be organised as an integrating element involving an input from both practitioners and academics, to share the range of best management practices and assist you in mastering your own professional knowledge and skills in specific areas.

Essentials of Management Studies
An introduction to the school, academic and administrative staff, this induction course is also designed to help you start building relationships with your colleagues. It will introduce you to the MBA programme philosophy and key components, requirements, procedures and schedules. A series of sessions on study skills development will be provided to help a smooth start of the learning process.
Managing Organisations will introduce you to the main theories of organisational behaviour and management so you can understand how to ensure that organisations are managed to maximise their performance.
Markets & Marketing is designed to explore the managerial aspects of the marketing function and includes quantitative and qualitative analysis of the company, its customers and competitors, commonly used in solving marketing problems. The study course is organised around the key marketing decision variables—target market selection, product, pricing and distribution and promotion—and around the various marketing processes of strategy formulation, organisation and implementation.
Accounting & Finance for Managers
Evaluating the financial performance of business units is crucial to all managers. This module introduces you to the terminology, concepts, and problems of representing and measuring economic activity. You will cover the basic forms in which financial statistics are conventionally presented as well as techniques for their analysis and interpretation.
Human Resource Management provides you with an organisation-wide perspective and aims to develop your analytical skills within the context of human resource management promoting a comprehensive understanding of how the human resource management role fits into the overall strategic decision –making and problem-solving functions of the organisation.
Legal Environment of Business is a comprehensive study of commercial law as it affects day-to-day business management. Emphasis is placed on development of a manager's ability to recognise the circumstances under which a legal professional should be contacted for advice and/or assistance.
Strategic Management will provide you with a thorough grounding in the major issues and perspectives in the formulation and implementation of your company strategy. It will help you adopt a strategic thinking approach in the context of a variety of industries, business market environments and sector specific issues, evaluate the impact of, evaluate the impact of tactical and strategic decisions within a simulated business environment, and develop the practical and relevant application of strategic business models using case driven method and group dynamics.
Entrepreneurial Leadership, a cross-disciplinary study course, will allow you to combine your existing business experience with the theories and approaches you’ve considered and analyse them to see how you can develop and nurture the fundamental traits of the most successful industry figures, in yourself, your workforce and your organisation as a whole. Building a business, managing a project, managing a division, leading a consulting engagement, or building a sales force all require you to lead – to lead and influence others. This study course is designed to help you critically review and develop your individual entrepreneurial leadership skills and competencies, develop an intergraded understanding of theory and practice related to the analysis of entrepreneurial and organisational problems, systems thinking and decision- making. It will also develop your knowledge, understanding and application of the entrepreneurial process, management development, creativity and the management of innovation and change.
Managing Projects and Supply Chains will introduce concepts and techniques for successful project implementation and management. It will also introduce you to the function of Supply Chain Management and enable you to understand the interaction between Projects, Supply Chains, Marketing, Production and Logistics, and those interactions that take place between the legally separate firms within the product and service flow channel.
Management in Global Context will give you a broad overview of the complexity of the global business environment. You will gain an understanding of how the global context of the business environment impacts upon managerial processes and appreciate the interrelationships between global business and the environmental, social, technical, legal and regulatory frameworks that influence business operations. Particular attention will be given to newly established and emerging markets.
Financial Value Creation course is designed to provide you with the technical expertise to allow critical analysis and reflection on financial decisions that impact the wealth of company shareholders.
Corporate Social Responsibility will give you an understanding of the ethics of business and the voluntary and regulatory practices currently shaping corporate social responsibility across all management disciplines in both national and global context.
Operations Management offers the study of concepts relating to the operations function in both manufacturing and service companies - the operations process responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling resources in order to efficiently and effectively produce goods and services so as to meet the goals of an organisation.
Research Methods for Business will develop your understanding of research and consultancy processes through planning and executing a substantial project based on a specific organisational business problem.
