Riga Digital Forum 18 New Technology Short Film Festival is announced
Riga Digital Forum 18 (RDF) new technology short film festival organised by RISEBA University of Business, Arts and Technology in cooperation with Telia Latvia, will take place in Riga for the first time from 19 to 20 October.
With the opening of the application for the short film competition on 12 April, a Pre-fest or before-festival will take place during RDF, offering the opportunity for all of those interested to view and to get acquainted with the newest digital technologies, as well as to discover their use in audio-visual works and digital art.
“Since the beginning of the year, when we started our cooperation with RISEBA, we have been enthusiastically following the realisation of the idea of the festival. It is fascinating how media academics and students of the university not only actively adapt to the rapid pace of digital technology development in their work but also proactively initiate the discussion of media technology industry players on the possibilities of the industry in the Baltics and the world. Telia business experience in the live-video translation industry prove that Latvia is competitive in the global market, and this is the message that we wish to deliver to the visitors of RDF” notes Mikus Ozols, Chairman of the Board of Telia Latvia.
RDF is the first project of such a kind in the Baltics, putting forward the newest technologies, their use and integration in the creation of audio-visual work aesthetics and content as the cornerstone of the festival and short film competition.
“Nowadays, audio-visual technologies are developing at an unbelievable speed - creators of the content fail to follow it with an adequate content offer. It is the birth of a new narrative and new audio-visual aesthetics. The mission of RDF is to promote the creation of new content, using the newest technological solutions” says Jānis Holšteins, Dean of the Faculty of Media and Communication of RISEBA University of Business, Arts and Technology.
During the festival, panel discussions of field experts, various master classes, creative workshops and other activities will take place, as well as the short films presented in the competition will be demonstrated and best works in the three following categories will be awarded:
- 360 degree virtual reality (VR) category,
- Drone short film category,
- Open category.
Additionally, several special prizes will be presented as well. Both students and field enthusiasts of any age group, as well as professionals, are invited to participate in the competition, provided that one of newest digital media technologies is used in the process of creating the work.
Field experts from Telia Latvia, virtual reality entertainment studio Portal, Latvian Association of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (LARPAS) and others will participate in the Pre-fest. At the conclusion of the event the participants and visitors will be entertained by the first drone show in Latvia, which has been created in cooperation with Drone Racing Latvia and dance studio Kaprīze.
