RISEBA Announces admission for Summer School "FestivaL'and 2.0"
Students of architecture, urban design and related disciplines from all over the world are invited to RISEBA International Summer School on the Ephemeral Architecture and Urban Design – “FestivaL’and 2.0”.
The summer school is organized as cooperation between RISEBA Faculty of Architecture and Design and Valmiera Summer Theatre festival (VVTF).
Dates: July 25 – Aug 2, 2019
Location: Valmiera city, Latvia
The summer school will be organized as the team workshops led by professionals of the field to work out the ideas on spatial arrangements, develop the design proposals, and build the festival village for VVTF visitors, locals and guests – LIVING & PLAYFUL CITY is the theme.
The VVTF has so far three years of experience in discovering the city spaces for theatre performance. By joining the forces with RISEBA the plans to generate more ambitious ideas and construct the festival village in the center of Valmiera has resulted in the cooperation to organize the summer school.
We welcome undergraduate and postgraduate level students studying in the following fields: architecture, urbanism, landscape architecture, building construction and engineering, design and arts, scenography or similar.
We also welcome students from higher education institutions and vocational schools.
Participants should have at least Advanced level of English language.
The summer school will be led by the team of architects and designers, landscape specialists, artists and invited professionals: architect Karlis Melzobs (LV), set designer and carpenter Rudolf Bekic (AT), theatre director and set designer Reinis Suhanovs (LV), architect Dina Suhanova (LV).

Participation fee in 2019 is EUR 250.
Participation fee for RISEBA students is 200 EUR.
The number of participants is limited.
The fee includes accommodation, lunch and dinner, all the activities, workshops and lectures planned in the program, building tools and materials.
Participants make sure to go to the summer school venue by themselves. Arrival – afternoon of July 24. Accomodation: Valmiera Vocational Training Center (Valmieras Tehnikums), 3 Vadu street, Valmiera.
Participants of the summer school will receive 3 ECTS and a certificate of participation will be awarded upon completion of the summer school program.
Valmiera is the largest city in the Vidzeme planning region. In the context of Latvia, it is considered as a development city with strong traditions of the production and industry, a considerable cultural heritage, and history.
Valmiera is one of the oldest cities in Latvia founded in about 1283. It is the former Hanseatic city, ruined by wartime of 20th century, and therefore missing the presence of the historical centre in the urban fabric. Valmiera is the administrative, educational, cultural and sports centre of the Vidzeme region. As it is a city with a true entrepreneurial spirit, Valmiera is also the centre for economic development of the region.

About Valmiera Summer Theater festival
Valmiera Summer Theater festival is a unique theatre event held annually in the urban environment, open air and non-traditional locations in Valmiera city.
The performances are exclusively produced for the festival by national and internationally renowned theatre professionals. The festival is in search of unusual places and original forms, which entertain, enrich, and provoke the festival visitors, locals of Valmiera and guests of the city. In addition to the theatre performances, the parallel interdisciplinary program expands the festival into the urban space of the city. In the summer of 2019, the event will take place already the fourth time.
The festival is organized by Valmiera Drama theatre with the support from Valmiera City council.
