About programme
RISEBA offers to study the master's study programme “Sports Management”, which is the only such programme in Latvia and the Baltic States. It provides an opportunity to acquire the theoretical knowledge of sports management in connection with its practical application, based on the European and international approach to the management of health systems, as well as to acquire professional and management knowledge both for those working in the sports sector and for those who only plan to connect their activities with sports management. After completing the study programme, the student will be able to use the acquired knowledge in the development and analysis of sports industry policy. In the management of state and private institutions, in the planning of financial and human resource, as well as in the use of economic methods.

Programme description
The scope of the professional master’s programme in Sports Management is 90 or 120 ECTS credits, which depends on the prior education of the candidate. Courses are organised in modules.
The master’s study programme comprises mandatory courses (Part A and part B) and limited elective courses (Part C). The mandatory Part A includes the preparation and defending of the master’s thesis (30 ECTS credits), internship (39 or 9 ECTS credits) and theoretical study courses (45 ECTS credits).
The limited elective Part C (6 ECTS credits) offers students an opportunity to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge based on their interests, from a selection of courses provided as part of the programme.

Study methods
The professional master’s study programme “Sports Management” is a modular programme and it also includes the participation of individual research papers by students (published research articles, presentations at scientific conferences) in the research projects of the Latvian Council of Science, and the RISEBA Faculty of Business and Economics.
The programme was developed in consultation and in conjunction with representatives of employers such as the Latvian Olympic Committee, various athletics federations and associations, as well as related study programmes in universities abroad.
The programme is delivered by academic staff experienced both in teaching (including in universities in other countries) and participating in international research, as well as by visiting lecturers and instructors who develop strategies, make and implement decisions in sports federations and institutions as their main field of activity.

Career opportunities
The programme is geared towards preparing top-level managers, experts and specialists in sports management, and improving its quality. Based on the expertise of the instructors of this programme and their experience in research, as well as the inclusion of students in ongoing affairs pertaining to managing sports activities, the programme makes it possible to acquire extensive knowledge and the skills necessary for successfully working at all levels of sports entities, including those operating on a local, EU and international scale. Graduates who successfully meet the requirements for completing their programme and defend their master’s thesis are awarded a professional master’s degree in Sports Management and the qualification of an Organisation Manager.

International opportunities
Erasmus+ study mobility
* Any full-time student of the Master's programme in Sports Management who has completed at least one year of study can go to the Erasmus+ exchange programme.
* A student can go to study for 1 or 2 semesters at one of the RISEBA partner universities. The duration of study mobility is 2-12 months.
* The student does not have to pay for the period spent in the study and practice exchange programme abroad, the tuition fee is covered by the partner university, but the student continues to pay the RISEBA tuition fee. For the period spent abroad during the mobility, the student is awarded an Erasmus+ scholarship to cover transport and accommodation costs.
* Erasmus+ Internship Mobility means that a student can do an internship in one of the companies they are interested in in one of the Erasmus+ programme countries. The student receives an Erasmus+ scholarship for this internship period. The duration of the internship mobility is 2-12 months.
