The joint doctoral program is implemented in cooperation with RISEBA University and the BA School of Business and Finance, the main strategic partners are SSE Riga and Kaiserslautern University.
The aim of the program is to prepare doctors of science, highly qualified researchers and specialists, making a significant contribution to the development of business and enterprises in Latvia and Europe.
The joint doctoral study program “Business Management” is the first joint doctoral study program in Latvia (founded in 2006). During this period, unique experience in managing the joint program has been accumulated.
The joint doctoral program "Business Management" is the only open type program in which experts from different countries are attracted as scientific supervisors and visiting professors. The strengths of the program is its compliance with the business development goals set by the EU and Latvia, as well as the effective exchange of knowledge between higher education, the business environment and society.
The program is implemented in Latvian and English language, that allows to attract foreign students and create an international scientific environment. In addition studies in English are organized in the form of sessions (three sessions per year), allowing foreign doctoral students to continue their professional activities in their home country, combining them with studies in Latvia. Foreign students can also participate in the program meetings remotely and discuss the dissertation at various stages of its development.
Doctoral studies are the highest possible level of education. The graduates of the program are employed in higher level positions in public administration and business, in the academic environment as leading researchers, professors and experts of the Latvian Council of Science. Many of the graduates are employers themselves.

Council of the joint doctoral study programme
The Council of the joint doctoral study programme “Business Management” in Economics and Business (sub-branch Business Management) is a collegial institution operating in accordance with the Regulations of the Council, documents regulating the Doctoral Study Program and regulatory enactments of the Republic of Latvia. The doctoral study programme is implemented by two higher education institutions: RISEBA University of Applied Sciences and BA School of Business and Finance.
The Council approves the study programme and its changes, supervises the implementation of the study programme, evaluates doctoral theses, approving them to defense in the Promotion Council, discuss mutual financial settlements and performs other activities related to the implementation of the program.

EDAMBA
RISEBA University of Applied Scinces is the only higher education institution in the Baltic States that became a member of EDAMBA in 2018. The Rector of RISEBA, Professor Tatjana Vasiljeva admits: “Being a member of the Executive Committee of the Association is a great honor, it is also a high appreciation for the University as a whole. Joining the EDAMBA Association was and continues to be a big step in the development of RISEBA science. Doctoral students and scientific supervisors can significantly improve the network of researchers-partners, carry out joint research within the framework of various international projects, participate in the prestigious annual competition of doctoral theses, etc. ”
EDAMBA (European Doctoral Programmes Association in Management and Business Administration) is an international non-profit making association. It aims at promoting and facilitating cooperation among Doctoral Programmes in Management and Business Administration.
More specifically, EDAMBA has the purpose to:
- Provide a network to exchange information
- Promote research co-operation in general,
- Help the participating schools to increase the quality of their PhD programmes, as well as to create an environment of excellence with a European perspective, all the while pursuing diversity.
Every year, EDAMBA also offers its members:
- EDAMBA winter school doctoral students and supervisors;
- EDAMBA Summer Research Academy (since 1992),
- EDAMBA doctoral research competition (since 2003),
- regular meetings, exchange of experience.
